Chat with usA ready-made basket of 10 to 30 Indian stocks, picked and weighted by Wright’s research models. You buy it through smallcase on your own broker, and the shares sit in your own demat.

Learn more about equity portfolios
What is equity portfolio management?
Analysing equities and managing equity portfolios are closely linked. Running a group of stock portfolios involves attention to detail, software skills and administrative efficiency, along with a deep understanding of financial markets and investment principles.
Recommendations for equity investment strategies rest on three things: your risk profile (aggressive, moderate or conservative), your goals and how long you want to invest, and your thematic preferences, such as momentum or value investing.
How do equity portfolios work?
Equity portfolios are collections of stocks managed to achieve a specific investment objective. They typically hold a diversified mix of stocks across industries and sectors, to reduce risk and improve returns.
Portfolio returns are driven by factors. Macroeconomic factors are broad, like GDP growth and inflation. Style factors describe strategies for outperformance: value, size, momentum, quality and low volatility.
How do equity portfolios earn?
Equity portfolios make money in two main ways: capital appreciation, when the stocks in the portfolio rise in value, and dividend income, when profitable companies share part of their earnings with shareholders.
Growth, value and dividend investing are different ways to pursue those returns, and each depends on a good understanding of a company’s valuation.
Who should invest?
Anyone looking to grow their wealth over the long term, with money they will not need soon, should consider investing. Compounding lets you reach financial goals faster than saving alone.
Investing carries risk, so understand your finances, risk appetite and goals first. Equities offer the potential for high returns, diversification, ownership in real businesses and liquidity.
Types of equity investments
Common shares make you a part owner of a company, bought on the NSE or BSE. Preferred shares pay dividends and rank ahead of common shares if a company winds up.
Equity mutual funds pool money from many investors into a professionally managed set of shares. Equity futures, arbitrage funds and private equity funds are other ways to invest in equity.
What is equity analysis, and why is it important?
Equity analysis assesses a company’s financial and operational performance to judge what its stock is worth, using the income statement, balance sheet and cash flows, along with management quality, competition and growth potential.
It helps you make informed decisions about whether to buy, hold or sell, and to diversify your portfolio mindfully.
